Definition: |
An increased count in the peripheral blood of cells that are precursors to mature circulating blood cells such as neutrophiles, monocytes, lymphocutes, and erythrocytes. Blasts are not usually found in significant numbers in the peripheral blood circulation, but can be observed in hematopoietic neoplasms such as leukemia, severe infections, and as a result of certain medications. |
